Work and Flow | An Evening Festival of Dance Films at KoresponDance 2022

21:30

Industry and water: two opposite contexts, each of which can influence and inspire dance. As dancing beings, we approach these environments and poetry appears where it is least expected…

Screening programme:

Salidas (Spanish for ‘exits’) - the film tells the story of Giralda, an undertaker who guides deceased humans to the afterlife. Interpreted through Spanish dance and flamenco music and set in an old, East German canal, the film creates an associative link between Northern and Southern Europe, between movement and silence, between farewells and eternity.

A dance interpretation of the life cycle of insects. An infinite process of the creatures’ birth in timeless silence. The organism in a pulsating microcosm, transforming against a backdrop of inorganic matter. The camera, focused on eternal events, that are almost imperceptible.

Leonardo da Vinci called water the blood of the planet. A group of people emerge from the water. They try to resist the river’s current and the current of people in the city, but must surrender its power and are washed ashore. Stranded on the riverbank, they seek refuge and shelter. Through the film, moving "with or against the current” and "resistance and devotion” manifest as primal instincts and survival strategies.

Luna and Diego are parking attendants. Diego has the night shift, while Luna works during the day. During the filming, Timecode’s director worked as a programmer, the screenwriter as a music teacher in a high school and the editor worked at McDonald’s. The recipient of the Palme d’Or at Cannes, Timecode is one of the most highly awarded dance films of the past decade.

Evening screenings will be introduced by Jana Návratová from the Dance Film Festival Prague.
